As Executive Vice Chancellor, I aspire for UC San Diego to work collectively and coherently in becoming an inclusive student-centered, research-focused, service-oriented university.​

I envision that we will:

• ​scale up the size, connectivity, and impact of our research collaborations​
• be as proudly innovative in education as we are in scholarship​
• empower every Triton to succeed – undergraduates, graduate students, staff, and faculty

Over the past several years, we have worked throughout Academic Affairs, as well as with partners across UC San Diego and the broader community, on several large-scale goals. Through that work, we discovered that the Collective Impact approach of having shared goals and an emphasis on purposeful collaboration magnified the impact of the effort being invested. Here are the UC San Diego overarching goals and habits that will make this effort successful:

• Erasing opportunity gaps for undergraduates, graduate students, and employees​

• Promoting large-scale, interdisciplinary, community-engaged research initiatives​

• Extending our partnerships throughout campus and the wider community​
• Cultivating diverse revenue streams to support new academic initiatives​
• Pursuing continuous improvement – including lessons from the COVID area​
• Employing Collective Impact to manifest our shared goals and leverage common datasets, tools, and assessments across our many unique programs

UC San Diego is transforming California and a diverse global society by educating, by generating and disseminating knowledge and creative works, and by engaging in public service. Guided by UC San Diego‘s first-ever Strategic Plan, the university is in the midst of a major transformation. Beyond the new buildings, there is an intellectual and cultural transformation underway that is reenergizing the student experience and sparking breakthrough research and innovation.

Academic Affairs supports the campus on its way to becoming an inclusive and welcoming living-learning environment, and a destination for art, culture, and recreation.
